The Ithuba Sessions – Raiko

#IthubaThrowback

Our old friend Raiko popped in at the Ithuba Sessions to drop some gems from his vinyl collection …. tune in as he takes us on a Journey that starts in Alice Coltrane’s Satchidananda and takes us via the dreamscapes of Miles Davis; Breezly Brewin’s buttery Juggernaut flow; DJ Shadow’s existential ruminations about the aesthetics of one’s soul; Madlib’s invasion of the Blue Note Archive and then aptly ending with Mulatu’s Kulunmanqueleshi …

We hope you enjoy the set …..

About Raiko:
Raiko was birthed during the late 90’s of the South African music scene, maintaining a presence predominantly in Hip Hop circles.

Known for his throwback sets and eclectic music tastes, a specialist in live performance shows has led him to dj for recognised acts like Khuli Chana, AKA, Morafe, TKZee, Magesh, Stogie T, Zaki Ibrahim, (touring US Artists: Wordsworth, John Robinson, Akil (Jurassic5) and 4 successful European tours between 2009 – 2010 with electro/hip hop act, Ben Sharpa (R.I.P). Big thank you to ICR Radio for letting us use their radio antenna for this project.

About the Ithuba Sessions:
Over two weekends in the month of August 2014, we hosted a pop-up radio show at the Ithuba Arts Gallery as part of the Backspace Residency. On the corner of Juta and Biccard, we were immersed in a hub of sound, collaboration and imagination. Using ICRs Radio antenna, we broadcast (via ICRs 102.2 FM) our own sonic collage to a 1km radius, within Braamfontein, featuring an array of vinyl only DJ sets and live music performances.
